Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 Review
The truth is that full-spectrum LED grow lights are still new on the market. As a result, a lot of questions have been raised over the advantages they offer over their traditional counterparts. The questions are unsurprising seeing that, in a bid to maximize their yields, most professional growers are constantly on the lookout for the latest technology. Most known brands tend to release new lineups that are better each year. However, some manufacturers still fall short of their claims. Well, not Black Dog LED. The Colorado-based company is known in the industry as producing some of the most of the highest intensity LED grow lights in the industry while always living up to their wattage claims they make. In this article, we are going to review one of the newest and most powerful full-spectrum LED grow lights on the market: the Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2. So without further ado, here is our Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 review.
Pros:
Made in the USA by well respected Black Dog LED
Up to 5′ X 5′ (25 sq ft) footprint coverage
High light intensity for deep canopy penetration
Outperforms HPS, MH, CMH, fluorescent, and “full-spectrum” lights of equal wattage
Low Heat output and most efficient spectrum for plants
Over 6 years of research and testing
Cons:
The high quality comes with a higher price
Benefits of Full Spectrum LED Grow Lights
Many professional growers who have already used full-spectrum LED grow lights seem to agree to one thing – their effectiveness in terms of the spectrum emitted. In order for photosynthesis to occur optimally and as naturally as possible, it is important for plants to grow under the right kind of light and temperature.
Plants tend to prefer different wavelengths according to their type, and this is where full-spectrum LED lights come in. Full-spectrum LEDs have been specifically designed to emit all the wavelengths needed during the entire growth process. This one is just one of the many advantages of this relatively new technology.
Yet another outstanding benefit of full-spectrum LEDs is that they are designed to emit or discharge far less heat when compared to other lighting systems. This is very important as too much heat tends to cause decreased plant growth.
Too much heat also leads to a decreased lifespan of an LED. The average lifespan of a full-spectrum LED grow light is 50,000 hours, which is quite impressive seeing that the average lifecycle of an HPS is only 10,000 hours. This translates to over 15 years of usage with a full-spectrum LED grow light.
More benefits that come with these grow lights are that they are highly versatile and quite eco-friendly, unlike their traditional counterparts which usually contain toxic chemicals.
Overview- Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 Review
The Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 600 is a full-spectrum LED grow light which is ideal for use by both experienced and inexperienced growers.
Measuring about 18.75″ in length, 18.75″ width, and 5.13″ in height, and weighing in at 39 pounds, this full-spectrum Black Dog LED gives a 6.5 by 6.5-foot coverage during the vegging stage and 5 by 5-foot coverage during the flowering stage. This is very impressive seeing that most 1000 watt LED lights out there can offer a mere 4″ x 4″ coverage in flowering.
Just like all Black Dog LEDs, the PhytoMAX-2 600 features the Phyto-Genesis Spectrum. The Phyto-Genesis Spectrum was developed after years of research in a bid to promote healthier, higher-quality and more disease-resistant plants.
Plants operate optimally at a particular wavelength of light at each stage of growth, and this is exactly what the Phyto-Genesis Spectrum is meant to provide without necessarily having to adjust from one spectrum to another.
The Phyto-Genesis Spectrum does not, however, emit any UV-B light as is the case with most LEDs. The PhytoMAX-2 600 has time and again been advocated as the best LED for growing cannabis, but is also an excellent choice for other types of plants, as well.
