AeroGarden Bounty Elite

Summertime is my favorite time of year. Like most people, I love the warm weather and abundant sunshine that this season brings. For me, summer also means that I can spend my afternoon out in my garden and enjoy the healthy, fresh, and flavorful produce I pick right from my own backyard.  But when autumn sets in and my plants begin to wilt, I am comforted to know that my AeroGarden Bounty Elite will continue to provide my family with fresh herbs and vegetables throughout those cold winter months.

So why use an AeroGarden? Some people don’t have adequate land for their own garden, or just don’t have the time or skill to cultivate quality produce themselves. While I personally do have these benefits, I cannot grow my own food all year long.  So – instead of depending on supermarkets for my herbs and veggies  –  I use a high-yielding AeroGarden Bounty Elite. These compact hydroponics machines allow me a simple, stress-free way to garden all year round and without the pitfalls of soil or outdoor growing.  The Miracle-Gro AeroGarden Bounty Elite is one of the best hydroponic systems for people who want to a sophisticated yet easy way to grow fresh produce during every season of the year. Let’s review the AeroGarden Bounty Elite and discuss why this model may be just what you need to fill that gardening void in your life.

The AeroGarden Bounty comes in the form of a 17.25″ W x 11.25″ D x 15″- 34″ H compact grow system with 9-Pod for growing plants and herbs. The kit includes a 45-watt full spectrum LED grow light system that can extend up to 24” of growing height. This is double the height of the AeroGarden Harvest, meaning your plants have the ability to grow much taller in an AeroGarden Bounty. The 45 watt LED is energy efficient and is tuned to the specific spectrum to maximize photosynthesis – white LED for faster growth, blue LEDs for larger yields, and red LEDs to bring out the flowering and fruiting. This full spectrum of light allows plants to experience rapid, healthy growth and – in turn – amazing yields.

The Bounty Elite is equipped with an interactive LCD touchscreen control panel to fully automate and customize your grow. Also included in the kits are the reservoir, reservoir lid (with 9 holes for plants), 45W grow light, pump,  and pre-seeded pods kits with grow media, grow baskets to hold the grow media, and humidity domes. The starter Gourmet Herbs Seed Pod Kit includes Genovese Basil (2), Thai Basil, Thyme, Mint, Curly Parsley, Chives, Italian Parsley and Dill. Also included are Miracle-gro patented nutrients which are made from natural mineral salts that provide all the crucial nutrients your plants will need to thrive.

When you Receive your AeroGarden Bounty

Once your AeroGarden Bounty arrives, no need to reach for the toolbox. It takes only a few minutes to snap the pieces together and program the control panel. The first thing you should do is place the lid on top of the reservoir. Take the 9 assorted seed pods, and insert each into one of the nine holes on the lid. Affix the 9 humidity domes on each seed pod. Next, pour pH-neutral water into the reservoir until the water level reaches the fill line. If you tap water is not pH-neutral, or contains chemicals, use distilled water. Now mix in the Miracle-Gro nutrients as per the directions.

Now that your reservoir and seed pods are in place, its time to program the control panel. Once it has been plugged in, simply follow the prompt on the LCD screen.  It will first ask you which type of plant you are growing (ie, herbs, tomatoes/peppers, etc), then proceed to guide you through setting up a timetable for when the LED grow light will turn on and off. We recommend that you flip through all of the touchscreen settings to familiarize yourself with the Aerogarden’s automated capabilities. For starters, all you really need to do is just program the grow lights to the correct setting based on the crop, press “ok,” and your AeroGarden Bounty is all set for germination mode. Within a few minutes of unboxing, your AeroGarden is already properly set up and ready to grow!

AeroGarden Bounty Elite Results

Don’t let the compact profile of the AeroGarden Bounty fool you. This is a hydroponic system to be reckoned with! While only requiring a corner of a countertop, the Bounty Elite can put enough food on the table to feed a whole family.

For our first grow with the Bounty Elite, we used the Gourmet Herbs Seed Pod Kit. Within 10 days of planting, all 9 of the herbs had begun to sprout. Dill was the first one to sprout, and once it did, it grew like a weed. Basil, mint, and the others were soon to follow.  At roughly 45 days, our herb garden was overflowing with healthy growth.

We had similar luck with the Mighty Mini Cherry Seed Pod Kit. Within a month, each pod was bursting with bright yellow flowering. By day 45, the vines were absolutely covered with small green tomatoes beginning to form, which later turned into a stunning red color as they ripened. Seeing fresh tomatoes on the vines in depths of a frigid January winter is a gardener’s dream!

Harvesting

In most case, you can begin to harvest your herbs and salad green after the first month. Tomatoes and peppers, on the other hand, generally require at least a few months of growth before ripening. For best results, keep your plants trained so that no vegetation extends beyond the reaches of the grow light. Plants need plenty of light to maximize photosynthesis. Trim back growth if plants become crowded and compete for light.

Plants can remain growing in an AeroGarden Bounty for up to 6 months. We usually do our final harvest after 3 or 4 months.  and then start a new grow with an entirely different crop. This allows us 3 or 4 complete seed to harvest grows per year. However, the choice is yours to make. After a few months with the AeroGarden Bounty, you will be amazed at how much growth can come out of such a small growing system!

Tip: Clean your reservoir and remove all root debris from within your system between each new grow. Do not leave any cleaning solution residue behind as toxic chemicals can harm your hydroponic plants.

Miracle-Gro offers salad greens, cherry and heirloom tomatoes, peppers, flowers, and other fabulous types of seed pod kits. As an alternative, you may also consider purchasing the AeroGarden “Grow Anything” Seed Pot Kit, which includes the grow media, grow baskets, humidity domes, and fertilizer. You simply add your own seeds to the pod. So if you have a favorite veggie, herb, or flower in your outdoor garden, why not try growing it indoors in your Bounty AeroGarden? You are free to get creative!

The AeroGarden Bounty Elite – The Bottom Line

The AeroGarden Bounty is a top-rated product, supported by positive customer reviews and the reassuring 1-year warranty and excellent customer support the company provides.

At uPONICS, we think the AeroGarden Bounty is a high-quality hydroponics system offered at an affordable price, and there are plenty of reasons to choose this model over less feature-rich AeroGarden models.  For starters, the Bounty’s LED grow light can extend a full 2 feet above the reservoir. This gives the grower more flexibility and opens up more crop possibilities when compared to, say, the AeroGarden Harvest, which only extends 12″. At the same time, the light hood is fully adjustable downward for smaller plants like herbs.

Any downside? The Bounty is typically priced higher than all other AeroGarden models with the exception of the Farm. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.  The Bounty offers more features and overall yields are higher. As far as components, the Bounty offers a more powerful grow light (45W LED), more planting sites (9), and a more advanced LCD control panel for automating each grow the way you want it. Again, with the exception of the Farm, no AeroGarden on the market has the capabilities of the Bounty.  Taking up just 10.75″ W x 7.5″ D x 10.5″-17″ H in space, the Bounty may just be the powerhouse of a hydroponics system you are looking for.

Summers come and go, but you can feed your family fresh herbs and vegetables throughout the year with the AeroGarden Bounty Elite. Buy one today and let us know what you are growing. Happy gardening!
